My apple keyboards won't bring up the hidden grub screen--shift keys and ESC don't work. This is strictly an apple hardware quirk. PC keyboards have the same dysfunction when plugged into apple computers, so it isn't just the apple keyboard, it is the way apple has implemented the keyboard function. Ubuntu-derived distros are the only ones that I've encountered that hide grub by default, when linux is the sole OS installed. Not a problem until something goes wrong.....on apple hardware.
