The default session type is meant to be remembered. So GDM's preference
of default should actually be irrelevant if the user has ever logged in
prior to the kernel update.

If previous successful logins used Xorg and suddenly it's going to
Wayland then perhaps the attempt to use Xorg is crashing and Wayland is
only the fallback?
