I am sorry, you are still experiencing this, and that the Intel
developers do not seem to have time to deal with this.

Does somebody know if this is a regression, that means did it work in
the past for example with firmware `iwlwifi-7260-16.ucode` from August
2015 [1], or another Linux kernel version?

Maybe you can pass through the device to QEMU/KVM, and do tests there to
avoid reboots to test other Linux kernel versions?
