OK. You would need to install Ubuntu before you can choose Wayland. But it's not guaranteed to fix things. And if you see related problems in Windows 10 then it sounds like the hardware is faulty :( Maybe not badly faulty... if the problem is just incorrect timing info in the monitor's EDID. It's not unusual for manufacturers to mess up EDIDs so hopefully that's the only problem.
