Try setting the debug-file-directory first, it should work. gdb --ex 'set debug-file-directory /tmp/dbgsym/usr/lib/debug:/usr/lib/debug' --ex 'file /bin/cat' --ex 'core-file /tmp/cat.core' Still, this does not seem to invalidate the original bug report or the one in comment #4, as they are setting 'file' and 'core' last.
