The resolution of my notebook-screen is 1280x800. A few days ago I switched off usplash by removing 'splash' from the kernel options in /boot/grub/menu.lst. Since then the system is booting much faster. I also tried changing the resolution in usplash.conf to 1280x800. Usplash still did not work and booting was slow again. So i switched usplash off again.
