This happens in both recording programs I've tried. - I'm using an SB Live 5.1 sound card. - The problem is the same whether I choose ALSA or OSS devices in the mixer, and the same input devices in the recording program. - I can record, but at a low level, being careful of the 3.5 ceiling, then amplify it, but this is inconvenient, and as it doesn't utilize the full amplitude range, I suspect it introduces distortion. - I can pull up tracks recorded before this problem (when I was using gentoo) and the tracks look and play fine, using a healthy portion of the amplitude range. - I have attached the output from lspci -vv and lspci -vvn as suggested in the instructions.
