way to reproduce :

1. set-up gedit

- open gedit
- click on "open"
- right-click on directory view and make sure that "Show hidden files" is active
- close gedit

2. create problem

- open gedit
- click on "open" (hidden files should now be shown)
- right-click on directory view and uncheck "show hidden files" (the hidden
files do not disappear !)
- right-click on directory view and check "show hidden files" (the hidden files
are now shown twice)

I've attached a screencast of the second part

It's not the same problem as Marc but I suppose they may well be linked
?
