I'm experiencing the same problem after upgrading from Feisty (7.04) to Gutsy (7.10). Just running a GL Screensaver like AntInspect will immediately lock-up the system. This happened even after doing a clean install of Gutsy. I've since replaced Gutsy with Feisty and I'm back to smooth operation.
