To add, this black screen is not allowing to to do anything...ctrl+alt+F1 is not working nor is ctrl+alt+backspace. Adding to boot options things like "noacpi" or "nosplash" or "noapic nolapic" etc is not working. safe graphics mode doesnt work either. No way to get to terminal, so cant reconfigure xserver-xorg. And this is not just related to ATI. This is one such issue to help fix BUG#1.
