I experienced this issue twice in the last 24 hours on 16.04. Both times, I waited over an hour after the computer froze before performing a hard reset on the machine. (The expected time for the operation to complete was under 10 minutes.) In my case, the computer goes directly from working as expected to being completely unresponsive, freezing all input (keyboard, mouse, power button) and output (screen, file transfer).
The bug does not appear consistently, though.
