I can confirm this problem on my Thinkpad T60. I have an ATI Mobiliy Radeon X1400, and since updating to Gutsy (kernel 2.6.22-14-generic) I'm unable to use a vga=791 setting. I have to remove the vga= setting completely to have any output at all (and all I get then is the standard resolution which is horrible).
