I also have a boot parameter vga=0x318 which worked on Feisty. Did my upgrade yesterday, kernel 2.6.22-24 came with the install and now I got a black screen as well. Due to the problems I isolated the parameters to just vga. For the record, I have an ATI radeon Mobility 9600
Tried the suggestion: > sudo vi /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and add fbcon and vesafb > sudo update-initramfs -u > sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer > change the line "blacklist vesafb" to "# blacklist vesafb" It ain't working. Only when vga=0x318 is removed, then I get my console output. Also, when started up in recovery mode, there is only one tty. When trying to switch I get a black screen with blinking cursor. In my opinion, this bug is not critical though it should be fixed before the release. People who play with their boot parameters know how to recover. This is not noob stuff. I'm not sure if my case is like Martin-Éric Racine with a crashing gdm but I'm experiencing what seems like a Xorg crash and might be related. X hangs, no ctrl-alt-backspace, no ctrl-alt-f2. Just a hard reboot works. From several Xorg logs I can see the output stops at different moments. -- tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
