It happens on DVI and DVI-VGA (converter plugged into laptop) as well, the M1437 only has DVI ext.-out. Initially when I switched to Gutsy it "worked" (as in it didn't cause the laptop to lock up), just the monitor configuration tool did not work (got confused, kicked primary to 640x480). It was a recent upgrade that did this particular problem, unfortunately I have no idea which.
