Intel GPU drivers seem to be the common thread here. My Acer system freezes hard with screen stuck and entirely unresponsive. It's an Acer E1-510P-2671 with 8GB of RAM. Intel Celeron N2920 processor with Intel HD Graphics (integrated graphics).
I found a report on a Lenovo that describes the behavior (solid hard freeze): http://askubuntu.com/questions/760731/lenovo-thinkpad-11e- randomly-freezes-on-ubuntu-16-04 For me: playing Netflix on Google Chrome and not touching the system - it happens typically in 1 hour. Sometimes it will go 90 minutes, but I've never seen it play for 2 hours without a freeze. Fan also goes to 100%, indicating that the firmware is sensing a hot CPU - suggesting that the CPU is in a tight kernel loop. I updated kernel last night, x64 4.4.0-22-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 5 16:53:32 UTC 2016 x86_64, no improvement. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575467 Title: [Dell Inspiron 3451] WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 1297 at /build/linux-lts- utopic-vy2yyy/linux-lts- utopic-3.16.0/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:1743 vlv_wait_port_ready+0x126/0x170 [i915]() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1575467/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
