In a perfect world we'd get to the roots of every problem, but in reality we don't have the time to keep debugging issues that seem to be gone. If the v4.6-rc kernels still have the issue, but drm-intel-nightly works, it should be a pretty straightforward reverse bisect to find the commit that fixed the bug.
