I'm using Ubuntu-Mate 14.04 64-bit. Having the same problem with Google Chrome. I tried installing Chromium Version: 48.0.2564.82 from Ubuntu Software Center Chromium is working fine. I'm able to search from google, something I wasn't able to do, as well as go to other google sites. Looks like a fair workaround for me a this time.
