Public bug reported:

I've got an ASUS E403SA notebook with Ubuntu 15.10 and kernel
4.2.0-23-generic from default repository. The touchpad is in PS/2 mouse
emulation mode so multitouch like two-finger scrolling is not available.

Dmesg output attached and xinput --list shows:

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ ELAN1000:00 04F3:0401 id=11 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Sleep Button id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ USB2.0 VGA UVC WebCam id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Asus WMI hotkeys id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]

The correct driver merged in 4.3.x kernel so I decided to test it from
mainline repo http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

With kernel 4.3.x and newer the touchpad recognised correctly and
multitouch works. After a while (minutes, sometimes hours) the touchpad
completely freezes with this message in syslog:
