I seem to get the same error. I installed sun-java6-jre and sun- java6-bin the other day, and then decided to remove it, but I only got the error mentioned above. Today there was an update, which couldn't be installed, so I tried to remove it again, an then re-installed with the update.
When I run sudo dpkg --remove sun-java6-bin I get a dependency-error (-jre depends on ia32-sun-java6-bin | sun-java6-bin) so I tried sudo dpkg --remove sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jre and got the following: (Reading database ... 126157 files and directories currently installed.)
