Public bug reported: Currently Ubuntu ships mc-4.8.13. Please update to 4.8.15.
There have been many bugfixes, and a big rewrite of the viewer addressing about 10 conceptual issues. This viewer rewrite appeared in git about a year ago and then in 4.8.14 and has proven to work reliably since then.
