Public bug reported: On a powerbook (aluminium G4 14" latest model with RV350 ATI), switching to console and back to X locks up the system.
The switch to text console works fine. When switching back to X, it locks up before X displays anything (you see the X VT's text content but X doesn't actually get a chance to display anything). It spins in a loop eating CPU, I haven't yet found where, it takes no input. kill -9 works and you can then restart X, it will work fine, so it doesn't look like a GPU crash. It could be an upstream regression. A quick chat with the X.org ATI driver maintainers seems to result in him strongly suggesting ubuntu updates to version 6.7.193 of the driver which according to him contains lots of bug fixes. I'll check if that version fixes this problem asap (probably not before next week though as I'll be offline for the week-end). ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [gutsy] X locks on console switch on powerbook https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
