This bug also affects me. In addition to losing the mouse visibility
when logging out or restarting with ctr-alt-bkspc as others have
described above, it also happens sometimes when switching users.

My video card is an nvidia geforce 6150, I'm running Fiesty 64bit on AMD.
I've tried vesa, nv and nvidia restricted drivers. The loss of visibility only
seems to occur when the screen refresh is set higher than 60hz (not sure about
this). My usual resolution is 1280x1024 @85hz.

I bought this computer in June, been running 64bit Fiesty the whole
time, but don't recall running into this bug before the beginning of
August or thereabouts. Don't know if that's because of updates to
ubuntu, which I apply as I am notified of their availability, or
something I've installed or fiddled with.

BTW: to anyone affected by this frequently, if you go to System >
Preferences > Mouse there is an option to hilight the mouse when control
is pressed. With this aid one can at least save work in progress etc.
when in a location which is not completely keyboard accessible.
