I don't have much to add to the above post except to say that I'm currently running Ubuntu 6.06 on my portege s100 since it's the only version I can install. I'd really like to upgrade and I'm happy to help with testing.
Failing that, if anyone could post a step-by-step guide to the workaround mentioned above, that would be very much appreciated.
