upstream thinks that's not a shared-mime-info bug

"video/mp4 is a super-set of audio/mp4. See RFC 4337 for details:

There's no way to know there's no video track without opening the file. You
should make Banshee handle video/mp4 files, or the user should rename the file
to a .m4a."
