I was able to fix this problem following advice of (Splaktar) by downloading a grub repair. It was an easy fix but a very difficult position caused by a simple automatic upgrade from 13-10. This is not a problem for non-technical users like myself to face. I've read the comments above, understood very little of it, other than it is widespread and can happen to anyone, even a novice. An automatic upgrade that automatically incapacitated my machine. I do thank all of you for helping me repair my broken GRUB. MRoy
