Kernel version numbers, especially those used by Canonical, don't mean
much to me.  What matters is whether or not the kernel includes the
troublesome commit identified in comment #67.

Joseph, can you build a pair of test kernels, one with the bad commit
and one without, but both with CONFIG_USB_DEBUG enabled?  Then maybe
people could try them out and report back the debugging information I
asked for in comment #82.

Tim, I'm afraid $248 is somewhat more than I want to spend merely for
testing purposes.  Especially given that there's no guarantee the device
would fail in the same way on my computer (it probably is similar to
your arch i686 machine).
