Kernel version numbers, especially those used by Canonical, don't mean much to me. What matters is whether or not the kernel includes the troublesome commit identified in comment #67.
Joseph, can you build a pair of test kernels, one with the bad commit and one without, but both with CONFIG_USB_DEBUG enabled? Then maybe people could try them out and report back the debugging information I asked for in comment #82. Tim, I'm afraid $248 is somewhat more than I want to spend merely for testing purposes.
