I don't think that's a duplicate - bug 987220 was opened a year ago, while you specifically reported a regression when updating from 3.2.0-37 to -38. Have you tried reproducing the situation (-37 good, -38 bad) whilst not using the ATI binary graphics drivers (fglrx)?
