@Brian: As per my comment #590 i tried the Quantal 3.5 kernel from the precise repo, and it did not help.
I have also given a fresh install of Quantal with its stock 3.5 kernel a go on a spare drive I had lying around, and within 20mins of playing a video in XBMC, hard lock. Here is an Xmas present from me (well Canonical and the kernel devs really), to everyone on this thread, just installed the mainline daily build kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/daily/current/ which happens to now be 3.8, on my Quantal fresh install, its been rock solid with an uptime of 14hours. Playing video and using XBMC like this previously would have locked several times by now. Fingers crossed it has solved it for me, someone, somewhere has plucked the needle from the haystack and this will go away in Ringtail, or whichever distro gets 3.7 - 3.8 kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
