I have no more details to add to this discussion, but do have the same problems already mentioned: a hard freeze of my desktop after updating from 10.04 to 12.04. I have also tried different kernels, checking discs, and memory. I do not have the same problem on two other boxes with the same upgrade but different hardware. I am just posting to show that the number of people having this problem is not small.
