Please run 'apport-collect -p plymouth 1069583'. If you hit Esc when the system boots to a purple screen, does anything happen? Does anything happen if you try to change VTs with Alt+F1?
It would also be helpful if you could boot with 'plymouth.debug=file:/var/log/plymouth-debug.log', with splash set, and attach the resulting file. (You may of course have to reboot twice, if the first boot doesn't let you boot to the GUI; in that case, please take care that the second boot does NOT include this boot argument since it would overwrite the debug log that we're looking for. ** Changed in: plymouth (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069583 Title: 12.10 boots to solid purple screen ujnless "splash" removed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/1069583/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
