** Description changed:

  Hello.

I've a fresh install of Ubuntu Lucid 64-Bit. It's up to date and running
on an Acer Aspire 5735 (that was running Hardy perfectly I should note)

Since the install, I've had problems where the /var/log/messages file
fills with ACPI errors...further, the system becomes very unresponsive,
and I lose the ability to dim or brighten the screen.

Most concerning....once this failure mode presents itself (not all the
time) I can not reboot...if I try to restart, the computer goes into a
loop of powering up, spinning up the hard drive, and then powering
down....the only recovery is to pull the battery, and put it back...it's
like the system is trying to recover from standby and failing when I
tell it to reboot...pulling power and battery is the only way to
  recover.

- I'll attach anything I'm asked to...please help!

+ WORKAROUND: I am presently running a patched kernel which eliminates the
+ bug completely. The patch was found at the following bug 578506 . After
+ patching EC.C and a makefile I believe, I compiled my own kernel, and
+ it's running well.
