Hi Chris,

I am running LTS 10.04 on my laptop, and yes, the bug still
exists...even with the latest kernel installed and running. I am
presently running a patched kernel which eliminates the bug completely.
The patch was found at the following bug link: #578506. After patching
EC.C and a makefile I believe, I compiled my own kernel, and it's
running well. Reports from users on Bug 578506 indicate the bug in
question is still active even in the latest 12.04 release.

I suppose you could consider this particular bug report a duplicate of
578506. However, closing this bug out as "Duplicate" certainly won't
help resolve the bug. But there is a wealth of information (much of it I
don't understand) in the comments of bug 578506 what clearly describe
what the problem is, and how to fix it with a patch...that being said, I
can't patch my kernel every time it upgrades...and I certainly can't
expect my family (who I've transitioned to Ubuntu) to patch their
kernels should they encounter this bug. So I'd like to see the fix
incorporated into the Ubuntu code.

Thanks for your time and thanks for your efforts to make Ubuntu better!
