Further to my above, I had to re-install Kubuntu 7.04 (AMD64) on my system (because of a hard drive problem) & even after updates again had no .WMF file conversion?
However, after about a week the conversion choice appeared in the right click menu! So I'm not sure if this is in fact a bug at all unless you count the first week after install.
