OK, I was confused by your earlier statement that you didn't have any compiz effects turned on. It suggested to me that you aren't using compiz on your system. Since Unity 3D is a compiz plugin, if you are using Unity 3D, you are using Compiz.
When you are stating that you "aren't using any compiz effects", what do you mean, exactly?
