make my machine boot each time

I have one floppy one CD rom and one 40GB HDD on a Pent III

I am not a specialist in UBUNTU 99% new to it ..

I have only one IDE hard drive and one CDRW drive.  No SATA, No SCSI.  I
swapped them on IDE controllers 0 and 1 but it made no difference - and
modprobe piix had no effect either way.  I reverted to Edgy and all is
fine now.
