I also have this exact bug. What happens is the user chooses logoff before going back to gdm two pop-ups appear (not every time) ICE socket could not be created then you click the two dialogs away gdm starts you try to log back into the same user session you get a blank purple page and you can move the mouse around (no desktop at all)
