Your printingbug info output shows you have both gs-afpl and gs-esp installed.
Do you use gs-afpl?
Does running the following command show the gdi device used by the ML-1000:
$ gs -h
If the gdi device is not listed please change your gs back to gs-esp with the 
following command:
sudo update-alternatives --config gs

If this does not solve anything please debug foomatic-rip to find out what goes 
wrong:
1) edit /etc/foomatic/filter.conf and set debug: 1
2) try to print something
3) after printing look in the file /tmp/foomatic-rip.log, attach it to this bug 
report.
