Thanks so far, but unfortunately the workaround fails when I get the
(initramfs) prompt when booting from the new Feisty installation on the
hard disk:  I type modprobe piix, and press enter, then when I type exit
to resume the boot I get the error 'can't access tty' again.  Unable to
exit busybox and progress to the permanent fix.

Any ideas?
