Thanks so far, but unfortunately the workaround fails when I get the (initramfs) prompt when booting from the new Feisty installation on the hard disk: I type modprobe piix, and press enter, then when I type exit to resume the boot I get the error 'can't access tty' again. Unable to exit busybox and progress to the permanent fix.
Any ideas?
