Thanks for getting back. The system hangs up while booting from a CD, DVD or from a USB stick. I never get any kind of splash screen, except for a brief view of a maroonish background with two icons at the bottom. It isn't there long enough for me to see what they are. After that, a black screen (not even a mouse pointer) and nothing. I've waited as long as 20 minutes with the black screen, and there is no further activity there, and no further blinking drive lights.
