Nearly the same happen on my Lenovo S10 with Kubuntu when I did the upgrade to oneiric, After login, the login screen fade to a black screen, only the mouse pointer are visibel and can hear the login sound. Sometime a message box appears e.g. from akonadi or nepomuk.
