If you're just going to reinstall, when you put the cd in, and boot off the cd, and get the main menu asking you what you want to do. Hit your F6 key, and you'll get a big long line underneath everything. Don't delete anything. Just add pci=noacpi and hit enter. Then it should boot up with that, and install like normal. The install will remember that you put it in there, so you wont have to modify the /boot/grub/menu.lst file
