Hi: 1. I do have three forms of Ubuntu 7.04: The "live desktop cd", the "alternate cd", and the "dvd"
2. I have 4 totally different machines: a. Three "pata" controlled machines, of various plumage b. One "sata" controlled machine 3. None of the above mentioned forms of Ubuntu 7.04 are working with the "pata" controlled machines: I get the now famous "can't access tty; job control turned off", followed by several "initramfs" messages 4. The "live desktop cd" IS working with the "sata" controlled machine 5. I have "upgraded" one "pata" machine from Ubuntu 6.10 to Ubuntu 7.04 via the internet/repositories, without any problems; that system is using kernel 2.6.17 My personal Opinion: There IS a difference between Ubuntu 6.10 amd Ubuntu 7.04..... From the above I do conclude that Ubuntu 7.04 was written for "sata" controlled machines, and does NOT support "pata" controlled machines. What is the difference??: It might be the 2.6.20 kernel used by Ubuntu 7.04, in which case I believe Ubuntu will have to re-write Ubuntu 7.04, this time with "pata" supported.... I do believe that people using "sata" controlled systems won't have that many problems!! -- boot - /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/96084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
