hi, i tried exactly as described and changed to text mode.
i have a few lines that boot, but quickly the screen turns black, and nothing more happens. it was too quick to take a picture, but the screen went black after something like "system 00:01: Plug and Play ACPI device, IDs PNP0c02 (active)" (not exactly this line, i took it from syslog from the working kernel). Anyway it was a message about PnP cards discovering.
