** Attachment added: "GNOME Alsa mixer screenshot (PNG)"
   http://librarian.launchpad.net/7438723/gnomeAlsaMixerScreenshot.png

** Description changed:

  Hardware:

Dell Inspiron 9300 with integrated Intel soundcard and PCMCIA Creative
  Audigy2 ZS Notebook sound card.

  Step to reproduce:

Plug-in the soundcard and a mic in the multiple Analog/Digital input
jack. Try to play with the Gnome ALSA mixer and/or aumix to get your
microphone to work. Analyse that the input line isn't working. You can
also try to record something from Audacity. Constat that it is just
  recording silence.

  Version information:

  Linux Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 2.6.20-15-generic
  ALSA-base v1.0.14rc3
  ALSA-utils v1.0.14rc2
  aumix 2.8
  AlsaMixer v1.0.14rc2
+
+ I also tried with the original ALSA from Feisty Fawn (v1.0.13-3) but I
+ had the same issue (this is why I upgraded to v1.0.14rc3)
