Sorry for my ignorance, but I just cannot understand this conversation.
There is a program that is practically unusable after a regular
installation from package. A simple user in a normal situation just
cannot use it unless (s)he finds the bug and the workaround suggested.
And it is not considered a bug? No fixes needed?

Ubuntu is meant to be an easy-to-use, out-of-the-box distribution, which
could be use without any further knowledge (even without English-
knowledge or command-line proficiency) - or at least I thought it to be
so.
