Deadpan, this is in no way considered fixed in 10.04. Its Confirmed as a problem in Lucid, but fixed in the dev release of Ubuntu, as is plainly shown in the bug tracker. We fix things in the dev release so that bugs don't accidentally come back in the next release.
If you can't wait for us to get through the backlog of lucid fixes, I'd encourage you to take a stab at fixing it yourself, as it sounds like a fairly simple issue.
