@Larry, you can install ppa-purge which will try to revert the ppa given as argument to the official version. For example to revert xorg-edgers use: $ sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers This will remove the packages installed from this ppa and reinstall the equivalent from the Ubuntu archive.
