As I should have mentioned in more detail the upgrade crashed before 'cleaning up' and 'restarting' in the update-manager-UI.
Therefore (running sudo apt-get upgrade) no packages need to be upgraded/installed/removed/not upgraded. It seems that the post-upgrade configuration step was omitted silently - how can I manage to perform this step?
