If such temporary solution is possible to get in 4.0, then +1, it's better than nothing. But what about a simple Esc key, which would exit plugin mode, and allow entering any shortcuts to browser (as a temporary solution)? This way we wouldn't have to agree on exact list of reserved keys: all keys except Esc could be used in both plugin and browser mode.
