Based on the links I included, too, it seems that when the ehci_hcd module is not present, USB works in USB 1.1 mode. In USB 1.1 mode, the problem isn't there. Of course, USB 1.1 is dead slow for many external devices. I'm still not sure why it has worked in Dapper. Maybe the ehci driver worked well with NForce, but something has changed, breaking it? Or maybe it IS the 'old_scheme_first' that has changed.
